The vision behind ImmoEye

Our client, Wüest Partner, a leading provider of digital real estate valuation, was faced with the challenge of optimizing the photo categorization process in its “Visits” app. This app makes it possible to comprehensively digitize properties.

A central component of the app is the recording and assignment of photos to specific categories such as «garage», «kitchen» or «roof». Previously, this assignment was done manually – a time-consuming and resource-intensive process. Wüest Partner was looking for an innovative solution to meet the increasing demands of the industry and achieve greater efficiency.

The challenge

The main problem was the high complexity of image classification, which often posed challenges even for experienced brokers.

For example, it is difficult to decide whether the category «Garage», «Roof» or «Exterior view» is correct for a photo showing a house with a garage from the outside.

This ambiguity made it necessary to provide the AI system with thousands of training images in order to adapt it to the specific requirements of the real estate industry.

The solution

To overcome this challenge, Datahouse and Wüest Partner relied on state-of-the-art deep learning technology.

At the heart of ImmoEye is the neural network MobileNet, which was specially developed for AI-supported image recognition on smartphones. Through transfer learning – a method in which a pre-trained model is adapted to new tasks – MobileNet has been optimized to precisely meet Wüest Partner’s complex requirements.

The integration of ImmoEye into the Visits app was a decisive step that drastically reduced manual work.

The system classifies hundreds of images per minute and delivers results with an accuracy of over 80%, which can largely replace human work steps.

Even in the case of uncertainties, the system makes well-founded decisions by calculating probabilities for all categories and selecting the most plausible one.
