Datahouse Diaries
Datahouse Diaries: Carlos, in Three Acts
28 Oct 25
Not every journey is linear. Some take the shape of soundwaves, coastlines, or clean lines of code. For Carlos, it’s all three.
Act I: Tuned In From the Start
Before writing software, Carlos was already building systems, just not always with a keyboard.
Originally from Brazil, he studied electronic engineering with a focus on hardware. But somewhere between circuits and code, he found himself gravitating toward the problem-solving and communication aspects of software engineering.

“Programming was always part of the picture, so following the software engineering path felt like a very natural step.”
Carlos Junior Felix Rodrigues, Software Engineer, Datahouse Portugal
It wasn’t just the tools or the tasks that pulled him in, though. It was the challenge of translation: turning technical complexity into something human, clear, and usable.
“I’ve always been motivated by the idea of making complex things understandable for non-developers.”
Act II: New City, New Soundtrack
Carlos has called Portugal home for the past two years. In September 2024, he joined Datahouse and travelled to Zurich in his first week on the job.
It wasn’t just onboarding. It was an immersion.
“Even in my first week in Zurich, I managed to build solid connections not only with colleagues there but also with the team in Lisbon.”

That early momentum gave him confidence and a sense of belonging. And while some people take months to settle in, Carlos had something working in his favour: rhythm.
Whether he’s running, skating, lifting, or coding, music is always in the background. He plays guitar and bass, and he’s slowly building a home studio.

“Even my sports hobbies usually have a music element.”
Act III: Movement, Meaning, and Minhota
Carlos doesn’t do idle. He’s a relentless explorer, whether it’s on holiday or in a codebase.
“To be honest, I don’t relax at all on vacation. I exaggerate on the exploring part, almost like it’s a sport.»
At Datahouse, he found a workplace that echoes that energy.
“I was motivated by the opportunity to work with modern technologies. The real estate domain also caught my interest, especially because it involves dealing with data and requires a lot of smart computational solutions.”
He also found something else he didn’t expect: cross-border collaboration that felt easy.
“I’ve learned how much the company values cross-location collaboration.”
So what happens when colleagues visit Lisbon? For Carlos, it’s all about balance.
“I’d take them to Alto Minho restaurant to try Bacalhau à Minhota. After that, Miradouro da Graça, because Lisbon is best appreciated with good food and a good view.”

Encore: The Bigger Picture
Small wins shape big trajectories. For Carlos, it wasn’t a technical milestone that defined his early days at Datahouse.
“Definitely establishing those initial strong relationships with teammates in different offices. It gave me a sense of belonging very quickly.”
That, and his ability to bridge the gap between code and conversation, means his story is just getting started.
