Datahouse Diaries: Bruno Paixão
23 Jul 25
Not every career leap starts with a long-term plan. Sometimes, it starts with a moment of clarity. In this edition of Datahouse Diaries, we introduce one of our newest developers, who joined the Lisbon office in search of challenge, growth, and a team that values progress.
With a love for building software and walking his tortoise, Tuga, Bruno shares his journey and how the right team culture makes all the difference.
New Beginnings: From Frustration to Fulfilment
Leaving a job isn’t always easy, but sometimes it’s necessary.
“I got to a point where I felt completely stuck. I was doing everything the client wanted, but there was no real support or growth. After a calm conversation with my previous employer, I left and started searching for a real challenge. That’s when I found Datahouse.”
First Impressions: Smart People, Shared Goals
What struck him most in his first few weeks was the sense of unity and competence.

“Everyone here is working toward the same goal. I immediately felt welcomed, and people were genuinely helpful—especially when I had questions.”

Being surrounded by experienced developers has also helped accelerate his learning curve:
“A lot of people here have seen it all before, so troubleshooting is faster, and support comes naturally.”
Early Win
Early successes can set the tone for what’s to come. His proudest achievement so far?
“Definitely launching multiple environments for clients using the REDX NG tool. In just a couple of months, we built a dynamic migration app with proper tooling and it’s already showing great results.”
Hobbies with Heart (and a Shell)
When asked about creative or unusual hobbies, his answer was equal parts developer and animal lover:
“I like creating personal apps and I’ve started learning piano. But I guess walking my tortoise, Tuga, might count as an unusual hobby? He’s a big part of my life.”
It’s not every day you meet a software engineer whose daily routine includes reptile strolls, but for him, it’s just normal.

Big Dreams, Bigger Drive
Motivation fuels progress, and for him, the ideas never stop flowing.
“Don’t ask me about dream projects or I won’t stop talking! But honestly, motivation is everything. I want to build something big, maybe a low-code platform that rivals Microsoft or Salesforce.”
And beyond the tech?
“Eventually, I’d love to open a reptile sanctuary in Portugal called ‘Tortugal.’ It combines my love for animals and a fun play on words—what’s not to love?”

From Code to Clarity
He’s always known where he wanted to end up.
“I took two computer science courses. It’s safe to say that software engineering was always the goal.”
The satisfaction of solving problems and delivering real value keeps him energized:
“Finishing something you’ve been working on for days feels amazing. Getting client feedback and seeing your work in action makes it even better.”
Work, Walks, and What’s Next
His idea of a break? Simple pleasures and local escapes:
“I haven’t taken many vacations but I usually stay in Portugal, relax, and catch up with friends or go on walks with Tuga.”
That said, he’s getting the itch to explore more in the future.
Lisbon as a Local: Seafood, Culture, and Curiosity
Hosting a colleague from Zurich? He’s got the plan.
“First, fried cuttlefish on the river’s south bank, it’s a must. Then I’d take them to Lisbon’s cultural center. There’s so much history there, even I’m still learning.”
A Culture of Focus
One unexpected takeaway from his first months?
“Having a fully dedicated team on a project makes all the difference. In the past, I had to split responsibilities. Here, everyone knows their role and things move much faster.”

Final Thoughts
From releasing client tools to walking his tortoise, his journey at Datahouse is a testament to what’s possible when motivation meets the right environment.
